Part sci-fi / part documentary series about the microbiome
Showcase
Biopolis - intro the microbiome
A young scientist ventures into the human microbiome in search of answers. Biopolis is an original audio series that is part non-fiction and part science fiction.
Dutch podcastmaker Michiel van Poelgeest meets a young German scientist named Dr. Theda Bartolomaeus. She tells him about a world he had never even heard of: the microbiome: a wild, diverse and bizarre community of microbes that exists within us. A community that might be in serious trouble, he soon understands.
She also tells him about a science fiction story she wants to create, about a young scientist who shrinks down and travels into the microbiome, to try and discover the cause of the disruption, to find a hidden truth.
These two stories, over time, became one story: Biopolis - into the microbiome, an original audio series, created for the Max Delbrück Center. This 6-part series is a blend of real world research and sci-fi narration, as it consists of multiple interviews Michiel held with renowned scientists in the field of microbiology, as well as chapters from the fictional story Theda and Michiel decided to co-create.
What is the microbiome? Why is it important that we understand it? Is it broken? And if so, how do we fix it?

Concept creation
Together we explore all aspects of conceiving and setting up a new podcast. We brainstorm the idea, choose a genre, develop a format, define the target audience and the visual and sonic branding that comes with all that. In addition, we help think of ways in which to best tell the story we want to tell. *See also Direction
-
Production
We act as the conductor of the orchestra, making sure every part falls into place and everyone works together harmoniously. We coordinate recording schedules, book studios, provide technical supervision and keep a tight grip on deadlines and budgets to ensure an overall streamlined production process. We also provide research support and offer assistance in approaching guests/speakers.
-
Direction
We script, read and listen (co-)creating narrative audio. When it comes to conversational podcasts we can help write that catchy introduction. We direct (Voice Over) recording sessions. At all times we keep the desired end result top of mind.
-
Assembly & post
We edit and mix the audio. Editing, especially with complex, layered audio productions, is the most labor-intensive step in the process, but also the most fun (as far as we're concerned) and creative. 'Where the magic happens,' in short. We create custom music and sound design and do all the audio editing. After this, we mix the podcast. In this final phase of audio post production, we fine-tune levels, timbre and storytelling pace.

Podcast marketing
In the vast sea of content, we navigate your production to an eye-catching, unique visual and sonic identity. We work with designers to develop custom artwork and devise ways for the podcast to find its audience. We produce audio and video trailers that you can distribute through your own channels and set up and deploy advertising campaigns to promote the podcast to new listeners.
-
Distribution
We distribute the audio through a hosting partner to all relevant "podcast stores" such as Spotify and Apple Podcasts. We upload the audio, schedule the publishing dates and make sure the podcast finds its way to the listener. After distribution, we monitor statistics and provide reports with relevant listening data and insights.
We could be on your team.
We get it. This is not a journey you want to embark upon by yourself. So let’s schedule a call and find out if collaborating with us is something that could work for you. Sound good?
